Privacy Policy

Unitso built the Learn ASL: Sign Language app. This SERVICE is provided by Unitso and is intended for use as is. The app is free to download, offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions, and shows no advertising.

This page informs visitors about our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information for anyone who decides to use our Service.

By choosing to use our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. The personal information we collect is used to provide and improve the Service. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

Information Collection and Use

The app has no accounts and no sign-up. We do not ask you for your name, your email address, or any other information that identifies you directly. What the app saves about your learning — which lessons you finished, how your practice answers were graded, which signs are due for review, your streak, and your settings — is stored on your device and is not sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it. If a future version adds iCloud sync, this page will say so before that version ships.

The app does use third-party services that may collect information used to identify you. Links to the privacy policies of the third-party service providers used by the app:

The Videos, Your Camera and Your Microphone

The sign videos, the lessons and the dictionary are inside the app and play from your device, which is why the lessons work without a connection. The app never asks for access to your camera, your microphone or your photos. It does not watch or record you signing, and there is nothing of the kind for it to send anywhere.

Analytics

Firebase Analytics records what happens in the app: a lesson opened and finished, how a practice question was graded, a review session done, a dictionary look-up, the subscription screen shown, and a subscription started or restored. Firebase adds the information it collects with every event, such as an app instance identifier, device model, operating system version, language, country, and app version. We use this to see which lessons are too hard and where people get stuck, not to identify you.

Firebase Remote Config lets us change settings — such as which version of the subscription screen you are shown — without shipping an app update. It sends the same kind of app and device information as Analytics when it fetches those settings.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are sold by Apple through the App Store. Your payment details never reach us: Apple processes the payment and tells the app that the subscription is active. RevenueCat, the service we use to read subscription status, receives the App Store transaction together with a random identifier the app generates for your install, and reports back what you are entitled to. It receives neither your name nor your payment details. Refunds are handled by Apple.

Log Data

Whenever you use our Service and an error occurs in the app, we collect data and information (through third-party products, in our case Firebase Crashlytics) on your device, called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device's Internet Protocol ("IP") address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when using our Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics.

Cookies and Device Identifiers

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. They are sent to your browser from websites you visit and stored on your device's internal memory.

This Service is an app and does not use these "cookies" explicitly. However, the third-party services listed above use device identifiers that work in a comparable way — such as Firebase's app instance identifier and the install identifier used for subscriptions — to collect information and improve their services. The app shows no advertising, does not present Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) to track you across other companies' apps and websites. You can review what your device allows under Settings › Privacy & Security.

Service Providers

We may employ third-party companies and individuals for the following reasons:

We want to inform users of this Service that these third parties have access to their personal information. The reason is to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.

Security

We value your trust in providing us your personal information, so we strive to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure and reliable, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Links to Other Sites

This Service may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Children's Privacy

The app is written for learners starting American Sign Language — parents, partners and friends of Deaf people, students, and anyone who wants to sign — and it is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13: the app has no accounts and asks nobody for personal details, so a child can practise alongside a parent without giving us anything. In the case we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we delete it immediately and ask the services listed above to do the same. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we can take the necessary actions.

Your Rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you the right to ask what data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its use. The app keeps no account: everything it saves about your learning stays on your device, and deleting the app deletes it. For the data held by the services listed above, and for the record of your subscription held by Apple, write to us at the address at the bottom of this page and we will pass your request on to them.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.

This policy is effective as of 2026-09-27.
